Probability Theory

The results of a roulette game rely on chance. Similarly in a professional blackjack game a shuffled deck of cards is used once and not reinserted into the game, the mathematical science of chance is called probability.

Probability assigns a number to the 'chance' that something will happen from the range 0 to 1. The closer this number is to 1 the higher the chance that that something will happen, 1 representing a sure thing and 0 an impossibility.

Probability is not a guess, it is calculated from a list of possibilities as will be shown in the upcoming examples. Probability of 1 (something has to happen) is divided into the different possibilities forming a fraction for each one. The calculation showing that etiher one of these possibilities could happen is the addition of the fractions and the calculation showing that a possibility can happen more than once is the multiplication of the fraction of that probability. Along the same line of thought the probability that anything but a certain possibility will happen is the subtraction of the fraction of the possibility from 1 i.e 1 - (fraction). There is no such thing as a probability greater than 1 or less than 0.
